Proviron manufactures and markets the Provifrost® and Cryotech® de-icing products. These are acetate and formate-based highway and airport runway de-icers.

Our de-icers are environmentally friendly: they easily biodegrade and exhibit low toxicity to vegetation and aquatic life. They also have low corrosion rates and are ideal for application on reinforced concrete structures such as bridges and parking garages. The effect of Provifrost® and Cryotech® de-icing products lasts longer than that of common de-icers. Depending on your airport’s specific needs, you will prefer Provifrost® or Cryotech® de-icing products.

Anti-icing and de-icing
Anti-icing prevents a strong bond developing between frozen precipitation or frost and the surface. Applying anti-icing is a proactive measure: timely application will lower the freezing point.
De-icing on the other hand is a reactive measure. De-icers are usually applied on top of an accumulation of snow, ice or frost that has already bonded with the surface.

Why anti-icing?
Both anti-icing and de-icing are needed for effective winter storm management. Anti-icing chemicals lower the freezing point of water, in line with the proportion of the chemical in the solution. Applying anti-icing before or early in the storm increases its effectiveness. Combining the two products has a long-lasting effect. It typically reduces the amount of chemicals used, the maintenance costs, and the environmental impact.
