ProviAPT photobioreactor

ProviAPT is the preferred reactor technology for large scale algae cultivation plants

Proviron’s ProviAPT photobioreactor is of ingenious simplicity. ProviAPT is a self-supported system basically built on a big transparent, plastic bag, filled with water. This bag holds compartments in which CO2 and nutrients are injected. That is where the microalgae grow. Both feeding and harvesting are fully automated and are performed continuously. Operating the patented photobioreactor consumes very little energy. Moreover, neither reactor production nor installation requires much expensive labour.

One material, one production run

The ProviAPT photobioreactor is produced on an automated line. It is made from a single cheap, material (strong plastic) and it can be produced in one single production run. The existing pilot production line can produce six hectares of reactors per year.

Yield

In essence, the ProviAPT photobioreactor is an aerated vertical flat panel type reactor. This topology has proven to be the most efficient and is likely the only option to reach the promising high yields up to 100 T/ha. The presence of a surrounding body of water warrants efficient temperature buffering and easily accommodates the use of excess low-grade heat to allow for year round production even in temperate climates.

Patented

ProviAPT has been patented in Belgium, Europe, the USA, China, Japan and a number of other countries.

Licensing

Proviron envisages licensing its reactor technology. Alternatively, the reactors themselves will be sold to a number of licence holders.
